Fernanda Mendes, nasceu em 1964 em São Paulo – Brasil, onde também reside atualmente. É professora de francês e artista plástica. Duas atividades que no inìcio não se comunicavam e passaram a se impregnar uma na outra.

Desenvolveu sua formação em Belas-Artes, atraves de cursos livres em ateliers de artistas, grupos de estudos, visitas a exposições, etc. Realizou exposições em importantes espaços de São Paulo como Centro Cultural São Paulo, Museu de Arte de São Paulo e Pavilhão da Bienal São Paulo. Nos anos 2000 fez uma formação em Literatura Francesa, mais precisamente sobre o autor Marcel Proust e sua obra Em busca do tempo perdido. Desde então seu trabalho tem também feito um diálogo entre texto e imagem. No entanto, um fio une os trabalhos desde o início: a utilização de materiais sempre precários e efêmeros tais como restos de papel, fios de linha, tecidos, argila, látex, gesso; e suas formas orgânicas e fragmentadas.

Tem uma formalização que mais parece uma tentativa de organizar aquilo que não pode se fechar em uma forma, mas insiste em existir, em uma linguagem de restos e fragmentos.

 

Fernanda Mendes, was born in 1964 in São Paulo – Brazil, where she also currently resides. She is a French teacher and artist. Two activities that at first did not communicate and started to permeate each other. She developed her training in Fine Arts, attending free courses in artists’ studios, through study groups, visiting exhibitions, etc. She held exhibitions in renowned spaces in São Paulo such as Centro Cultural São Paulo, Museum of Art of São Paulo and Pavilhão da Bienal São Paulo. In the 2000s she did a training in French Literature, more precisely about the author Marcel Proust and his work In search of lost time. Since then, her work has also engaged in a dialogue between text and image. However, a thread joins the works from the beginning: the use of always precarious and ephemeral materials such as paper scraps, thread, fabrics, clay, latex, plaster; and its organic and fragmented forms. It has a formalization that looks more like an attempt to organize what cannot be closed in a form, but insists on existing, in a language of remains and fragments.
